Prerequisite:
Defensive Handgun II with a passing score on the evaluation.
Objectives:
The goals of this class are to review and continue building the safety and marksmanship skills that you learned in Defensive Handgun I and II. In addition, we will speed you up adding time pressure and stress to your shooting and handgun manipulation.
What to Expect:
This course will be taught in one day at the range. The course will be about 9 hours with a 30 minute break for lunch. The prerequisite of this course is passing Defensive Handgun II at a Raven Level. The round count will be 300-350 rounds.
Location and Cost:
Range time will be at one of the local shooting ranges. The course fee is $200.00 per student.
What to Bring:
Firearm:
Bring a heavy-duty semi-automatic handgun (no revolvers). The weapon must be fully functional, have all factory installed safety devices intact, and have no dangerous modifications such as a “hair” trigger less than 4 pounds, removed trigger guard, pinned grip safety, etc. Pocket pistols are not allowed. A suitable backup weapon is strongly recommended, as many weapons fail at some point during the training.
Holster:
Outside the waistband (OWB) worn on the firing (strong) side of the body at the point of the hip. The holster must cover the trigger guard and secure the weapon while moving. Your holster should not collapse when the weapon is removed. No inside the waistband (IWB), shoulder, fanny pack, cross draw, or thigh-rig holsters allowed. The BLACKHAWK SERPA HOLSTER or similar types with trigger finger release buttons are not allowed.
Support Equipment:
A minimum of 3 magazines (more is better especially if your magazines are single stack) and 1 double or 2 single magazine pouches are recommended. Magazines should be worn on the belt on the support side of the body.
Electronic hearing protection is mandatory.
Wrap around impact-resistant eye protection is mandatory.
Loose pants with a sturdy belt, a hat with a brim, comfortable closed-toe shoes or boots, and weather appropriate clothing is required. Open necked shirts or sleeve-less shirts are NOT recommended.
Ammunition:
300-350 rounds of factory new ammunition. Reloaded or remanufactured ammunition is NOT allowed.
Jacketed bullets are required. The bullet design may be full metal jacket (FMJ), total metal jacket (TMJ), jacketed soft point (JSP), or jacketed hollow point (JHP).
Other Recommended Items:
Sunblock
Portable chair for use during lectures (we will have them but if you have a favorite)
Water bottle (we supply refills)
Lunch and snacks (you will not have time to leave the range for lunch)
Pad and paper
Location and Cost:
We will be using the Chaffee County Range located between Buena Vista and Poncha Springs on Hwy 285. The course fee is $200 per student.
